INVITATION

BUSINESS IDEA
Would you like to do any of the following with me? Perhaps with your unique boarding ‘home’ design kennel and a professional equipment manufacturer like sales@affordableagility.com, “self-educating play structures, LLC” could form a joint venture to design, test, and market play-learning apparatus for pet owners, boarding kennels, and professional trainers of service and protection animals? With my increased travel expenses I need to earn some money. Here are some of my ideas. Perhaps the following ad in the Star Herald might be worth running:

WANTED: builders, testers: automated, self-educating play structures. K-9’s, cats, birds, kids. Electric eyes, mics, speakers, dispensers, screens, scales, computers… 2024650067

WEB
http://www.activedogs.com/page.php?id=2
Also xref: a new breed of inter-active internet ‘statues’ with designated places who can stand or sit or particpate and be accessible to and from the internet. Adapt existing statues, create new ones. Healing themes. Historic themes. Futuristic themes.

SELF-EDUCATING
The items on the above web page look like they need to have the dog on the leash and supervised to learn to navigate them, BUT they give some ideas of how a tire, or some planks, or a toy suspended on a wire that would let the dog run the length of the wire while holding the toy, or what else? could be designed for dogs to safely use on their own as part of their play time.

STRUCTURES
Perhaps in the way minature golf holes require unique timing, or perspective, or turning skills to put the ball into the hole who could design and patent various yard structures for dogs with alternate configurations so from day to day the dog (s) would find it takes a new skill to get the reward to be accessible from the structure, or to get through the structure to the reward, or what? [^ ^ ^…]

TUGS
For example the five finger, real sheep skin tug toy could result in a gate being opened when tugged back far enough. To teach cooperative behavior, the gate could close if the tug was let go. So one dog would learn to open the gate for one or more other dogs to get the reward. The learning structure could then be reconfigured so two real sheep skin toys were in the system and BOTH had to be puilled for the reward gate to open?

TIRES
Or, say to get access to the couch or the bed to lie on, who would need to step or jump through a tire?

INCLINES
Or go up and down an inclined plane to get into a certain area one day, but the next day move it to a different area? Could the degree of incline be adjusted over time as per ‘tunnels’ below?

TUNNELS
If the dogs are used to going out a certain door to get outside, will they go through a short tunnel to get outside when they find it on their trail to go outside? Could the tunnel be lengthened over the period of several days so they gradually get used to going out a longer tunnel?

WEAVING
Is a useful skill in the woods and Betsy, Karzi, and Mekkah do it naturally. Likewise for herding dogs, right? What would be a way to permit dogs to teach themselves to weave? Would it again be an adjustable chute in the door way with sides which could be pushed out a wee bit more each day so the dog (s) knew from the previous day all they had to do was turn to one side and back to the other and continue to do so to get outside or inside?

SENSES
Skills in using the mouth, navigating, what about eyesight discernment skills? [^] Olefactory skills? Audio skills? Taste discrimination skills? ‘

DOORS
When the door to the outside run is open in the morning an audio tone could be made before the door is open. An electric eye could generate another pitch tone sound when the door was closed and one, or more, dogs approached it.

COME / GO
An a pair of electric eyes could make a tone and / or generate a recorded voice when the dog (s) went out, and a different tone when the dogs came in. Assuming ‘in’ would equal “Come,”‘ and ‘out’ would equal “Go,”, then when the owner used a two pitch dog whistle, or gave the verbal command… a vending machine treat could be dispensed upon the corresponding side of the door like the automatic change makers do. Would the dog would then have a sense of “inside’ or ‘outside’ for ANY structure?

OLEFACTORY
I’ve wondered if the blue, handicapped signs at the airport and in parking lots, etc. should have a unique scent placed on them – like those evergreen trees you can hang from your rearview mirror [Hnk hnk]. A timer could activate scents along a trail. Either the same scent, or a different kind of scent. Different scents could be associated with different rewards. Dogs could be trained to choose scents which had the most desireable reward for them. Or to prioritize the time they had to get to a scent before the reward disappeared so they would plan their path to maximize their total reward harvest?

EYESIGHT
Perhaps having a jack in the box style shape open [Thn] outside the fence (and gradually move it further away over time) and then having a scent, or tone, occur with a reward would teach the dog to associate the appearance [^] of ‘Jack’ with the finding of the reward. Over time simply seeing Jack ‘appear’ would cause the dog to go to one, or more, known reward spots. The reward spots could be structured as a gate, or door, or car so the dog would learn to best defend a yard, or house, or car? [whump]

COMBINATIONS
Perhaps a scent toy could be presented. Then a tone. When the dog brought the scent toy to the tone the automated reward mechanism could dispense a treat. When the tone sounded, but the dog did not have the scent toy in it’s mouth when arriving, no treat would be dispensed. Thus the dog would learn to bring whom with them when they heard the tone? [^]. Owners could scent the toy with their own scent and / or that of family members?

FINDING / SORTING
A simple exercise would be a loose Leggo (sm) – style cube or geodesic structure or 3D jig saw puzzle kind of configuration of many parts which a dog could paw and nuzzle apart to find the one part which was scented or emanating the tone, or after a while a certain shape (?) – at first simply by getting the mouth around it would be enough – the part itself would be the edible reward or have it affixed to it. Then the dog might hear a tone or scent elsewhere and learn to carry that part to that location to get the reward. The 3D K-9 Jig Saw Puzzel would be designed to be easily put back together again, or might have loose bungees which pemitted it to be nuzelled and pawed open, but then after a period of time after the tone, or with the sounding of [Whn hn]… OK, not a second tone, but after a period of time of the sounding of the first tone, the apparatus could automatically, gently tighten the bungee to reconfigure the 3D Puzzle so it could NOT be pawed apart and have it ready for it’s next use.

BARKING
Learning to bark to make things happen, like dial a phone in an emergency, might be useful. A microphone would reward a series of three barks, no more, no less, with a treat. Like the other incremental learning tasks, it might start off with a recorded sound making a single bark and the treat being dispensed. Then the recorded bark would occur, but the treat would not appear until the dog barked one, or more times. Over time the recorded bark would work up to three very clear and distinct barks and stop, and then dispense the reward. Then the apparatus would wait until the dog learned to do the same.

PHONE
Would a dog enjoy having a cell phone with a speaker phone in a service animal vest? Could a Morse code of barks perform different service animal tasks for the owner? Could different tones be easily sent to different dogs without confusing them so that different behaviors for different dogs could simultaneously be reinforced in the exercise yard? Would dogs be more sensitive to SARs radiation than humans? Could a walkie talkie radio be used instead? Would dogs like to call and listen to their owners, or the environmental sounds around their owners? Would dogs bark via phone to alert their owners they had been silent too long, or that a suspicious sound had been heard via the phone?

WHAT ELSE?
Personal protection dogs who are also gentle enough to be family dogs and 24 / 7 body guards for children sell for $17,000 and up. To what degree can the arm grabbing defense training be automated into healthy play activity to supplement the hard work the two, or more, trainers must do to teach the dog when and whom to attack, verses who is friend and must be protected? Would training facilities then want to purchase such equipment to aid their trainiers?

MIRRORS
At age 13 weeks or so was the first time who noticed whose pups noticing themselves in the reflection of the glass door of a store…

DISCERNMENT
The Fireside Inn in Portland had so many floor to ceiling windows along the corridor it took discernment skills to tell the difference between a window and a door; xref: scent, and what else?
