WASHINGTON — Many Federal Reserve officials at their most recent policy meeting pushed for further actions to support the economy if the recovery failed to strengthen over the summer, an official account released on Wednesday showed.

“Many members judged that additional monetary accommodation would likely be warranted fairly soon unless incoming information pointed to a substantial and sustainable strengthening in the pace of the economic recovery,” according to the minutes of the meeting, which ended Aug. 1.

After that meeting, the Fed issued a statement that included stronger language to signal its commitment to helping the recovery. The minutes revealed that the committee had carefully chosen to say it “will provide additional accommodation as needed.” In June, it used softer phrasing, saying that the committee “is prepared to take further action as appropriate.”
