MWR – Like the gold engraving plates found in upstate New York by the founder of the Church of the Latter Day Saints, as recorded in the Mormon scriptures, is it because who able to legally capture and move money around – and keep a significant amounts of it for themselves – the reason who are consider ‘sacred’? And like the sacred cows of India need to be protected from a hungry population? The rationale being it’s a combination of loyalty, merit, and bravery which gets money to ‘stick’ to whom? And the rest society must ‘improvise’ [thnk/] to care for those unable to do so?

Obama’s job is to hammer away at the undeserving rich, who are entitled to massive tax cuts denied middle and low income workers, many of whom, because of their unprecedented wealth, largely escape the obligations of most citizens to obey the law, and who employ lobbyists, lawyers and accountants to engineer legal loopholes applicable only to themselves, etc. Romney is the perfect advocate for the attack upon the middle class — born to wealth and privilege, opportunistic, untruthful, downright dishonest. The Tea Partiers, who are not part of Romney’s class, but whom he needs to win the Republican nomination, have readily recognized him for what he is and have serially supported almost every “I’m Not Romney” candidate. Romney is not Reagan, fortunately for us, and lacks the ability to charm voters into focusing on himself as the candidate and ignoring his message. Obama must strip away the camouflage of Romney’s rhetoric and allow everyone to see that what Romney wants to do is destroy Medicare, Social Security, etc., and preserve the practically aristocratic privileges of the richest of the 1 percenters. I believe Obama, as skillful a campaigner as he has proven to be, is up for it. This won’t be a campaign pitting two principled philosophies of government against each other, as this piece implies. It will be a contest between the preposterously privileged of the richest of the rich against everyone else. Let’s not pretend otherwise.

Romney is shamelessly planting the flag on the right to ease his way through the GOP primaries. Once he succeeds he will flip his message as soon as it becomes apparent that even a hint of dismantllng Social Security or Medicare will likely cost him enough votes to lose the election. The man is a fraud, the only thing he believes in is that he should be president. I hope Obama will not let the voters forget the disgraceful utterances that made him the GOP candidate.

When we took my older brother to college in 1965, we drove across North Carolina, where we saw signs all over the place “whites only” and “colored entrance.”
My dad was white, so when he got back from WWII, he had a wide choice of where to go to college on the GI Bill – black vets did not have such choice. My dad had an array of jobs open to him, black dads had much more limited access. My parents then could afford to move to a nice (and actually 100% white at the time) suburb. We went to good schools, my parents paid for my college education.
Did my parents work hard? Yes! Did I work/study hard? Yes! But, there was also advantage (privilege) all along the way built into the social structure of our nation. Some of that has begun to improve, but there are still biases working against some; many families are still mired in the reprecussions of generations of poverty – and that brings with it poor health, learning disaiblities (w/o resources to adequately treat), mental illness (w/o adequate treatment) and a host of other problems.
We must craft help to both provide survival support and to give a leg up to the young.
If Mr. R. gets his way what will the GOP do when the old, disabled, and poor are starving in the street? Call them lazy and walk away?

The Romney/RepTbags are all for welfare, i.e., subsidies for oil, farmers, military contractors, banks & bailouts so losses are socialized and profits remain privatized. Government hand-outs for the wealth is the Romney plan bought with destruction of the least among us. 10-million people toil to get the Rajah an ruby is the plan right out of the 13th Century.

The bastardizing of words have been the republican plan since President Reagan. His coining the words welfare queen is the best example. The welfare queen he described was never found . But it took ,and has demonized welfare recipients since. The typical voters view of a welfare recipient is a black woman with many chiildren and poor education. The truth is the average welfare recipient is white. And the attacks are really attacks on the middle class. Particularly the workers that are protected from disaster by the entitlement programs.
The attack on the poor is meant to turn our attention from the real problems of corporate welfare and special interest benefits. The republican attempts at voter suppresion of the poor is also a threat to the middle class. The republican attacks on public education is meant to help the special interest of private schools that benefit the “for profit” or religous right schools at the expense of public education. This continues the downward slide of the middle class. The love of money drives these radical right extremists and are aided by the right wing media in this attack on the middle class.
They infer in their message, that the poor or middle class don’t deserve a share of our prosperity because they haven’t put forth effort in education and work. In education, does that mean the children of the wealthy, such as Mr. Romney worked harder to get their education?

An opportunity society is great in concept, but if you cut funding for education and a stable childhood who among the disadvantaged is going to have an opportunity whatsoever? If I’m disabled or sick and lacking insurance I don’t have the opportunity to just will myself better. If the only job available to me are low paid and dead end then I don’t have the opportunity to reach the middle class.
All this sort of work hard and succeed rhetoric may have been true back when the United States had a monopoly in many domestic and foreign markets, but since computers make most complex jobs unnecessary and China took the rest our country is facing a severe opportunity shortage. Telling poor people they need to work harder doesn’t make the magically go away. What you save in welfare entitlements will soon be diverted to either the prison entitlement or the security entitlement.

Nothing like a product of our daddy-based entitlement system whining about government entitlements.
Despite having been born with a silver spoon in his mouth, and thus having enjoyed every unfair competitive advantage that family name and economic privilege entails in America, this viper is nonetheless willing to demonize those countrymen who have enjoyed none of those same advantages, and fallen on hard times only due to the implosion of the GOP’s fantasy-based economic ideology, in order to pursue the ultimate prize. That says everything I need to know about the ultimate content of Romney’s character.
I sincerely hope Mitt attempts to make this election one about character – because this flip-flopping, I was for Obamacare before was against it, slice-and-dice job destroyer, will prove such an easy target.

An entitlement society says that everybody on the ship is entitled to a place in a lifeboat. So the ship must have enough lifeboats that everyone will have a place. In an opportunity society, everyone has an opportunity to get a place in a lifeboat, but there need not be enough lifeboats so that everyone will succeed. In the opportunity society everyone will try harder; if you knew or suspected there would not be places in the lifeboats for everybody, you would behave differently and might adopt strategies of which you were not at all proud.
When competitive pressures push people to cheat, game the system, look for special angles, or rely on connections to succeed, this is normal and inevitable to an extent. But if it gets out of hand, we have too much competition. Romney (at least today’s Romney) does not seem to understand that too much competition is possible, and so he does not see that in many areas too much competition is with us right now.

Multiple Choice Mitt Romney’s attacks on Pell Grants, food stamps, Medicaid, and other social programs are nothing more than class warfare against working class and poor folks who are struggling to get by.
The evidence to support that statement is best seen by the fact that Romney entire fortune that he amassed at Bain Capital was built in large part through assistance from the government, including tax subsidies, government backed bonds, a loophole that allows private equity investors to pay far lower tax rates than their secretaries, and taxpayer funded grants. If Romney wants to talk about entitlements and government subsidies, why not first go after things like:
* bloated military contracts
* agricultural subsidies
* corporate tax subsidies and loopholes
* Medicare Advantage, which pays private insurance companies 14% more to provide insurance than does government insurance under Medicare
Or any of the other vast amount of waste and inefficiencies created in government spending due to efforts benefit the wealthy and corporations.
Romney’s attacks are little more than seeking to make political hay on the backs of the least fortunate among us, not a serious effort to make government spending, revenues, and needs match.

Entitlement, I’ll tell who is entitled to what!
Social Security is called the Social Security Insurance program. By calling it an entitlement, the Republicans have redefined it. They did so in order to be able to raid the trust fund, and use that money to finance the invasion and occupation of Iraq, and to balance the budget along the way.
We are entitled to have that money returned to it rightful owners, those of us who have paid into the insurance program. It is not the governments money to use as they like, it is for our retirement subsidy to be invested and kept separate.
Medicare is also a program those of us have paid for in the form of an insurance. Out entitlement is to have people such as Romney run out of town on a rail, not treated as some wonderful savior of America. It is he and his ilk who are responsible for the downgrading of America. The sooner we get rid of miserable people like him, the better off this country will be.
We are entitled to be rid of self serving hypocrites like Romney, Gingrich, and the rest of these mean spirited people.

So we have a draft dodger telling people, some of whom lost their most productive years serving in the armed forces fighting his father’s war, the country doesn’t owe them and their children anything and that they need to go find a job.
